(16-Sep-2016) Selena Gomez Accused Of Drug Use, Rehab Rumors Swirl After Revival World Tour Is Canceled
Selena Gomez has been faced with drug and rehab rumors since she announced the abrupt end of her tour at the end of August.
While the current whereabouts of Selena Gomez are unknown, many believe the singer has taken a hiatus from her music career in order to address addiction struggles, which may have been prompted by the tragic death of her longtime friend, Christina Grimmie.
In June, Grimmie was gunned down in Orlando by a crazed fan and in the months that followed, Selena Gomez was said to have begun “spiraling” as she attempted to numb herself amid the pain.
“I don’t really understand how this really happened,” Selena Gomez told fans during a concert shortly after the 22-year-old’s devastating passing.
“[Selena Gomez] wasn’t the same after that,” the insider told Radar Online. “She was definitely depressed — it was obvious.”
Selena Gomez’s Revival World Tour kicked off in Las Vegas in May and was scheduled to continue until December but due to her personal struggles, she was forced to walk away from the upcoming shows. As for what prompted Gomez’s sudden decision, the source went on to reveal that her family allegedly staged a “desperate intervention” about her “escalating drug use.”
According to the report, Selena Gomez was enjoying a cocktail of “Lunesta, Ambien, Klonopin, and Xanax. Not all at once. And more ‘recreational’ than any one thing specifically.”
While Selena Gomez has never confirmed allegations of drug use, the Radar Online report claimed she had traveled to an Arizona rehab facility in January 2014 to address her abuse of Xanax, Ambien, and marijuana.
On September 15, the Parent Herald recalled another recent rumor from Radar Online regarding Selena Gomez and her rumored drug use, claiming the outlet had suggested Gomez was using her mental health issues as a cover for her drug use. The outlet also stated that Gomez may have reverted to her old behavior, which reportedly included the use of prescription drugs.
“It is terrible that [Selena Gomez] has Lupus but she is using this as an excuse for everything lately and the truth is that she is just a mess right now,” the source told Radar Online at the time.
Although Selena Gomez has remained completely silent in regard to the ongoing drug rumors against her, a source spoke to People Magazine in August and claimed that her issues were absolutely not drug-related after the singer went public with her Lupus-prompted symptoms.
The break is “absolutely not related to alcohol or substance abuse” and was prompted after she “hadn’t felt like herself” over the last several weeks, the source explained.
“[Selena Gomez] decided to clear her calendar for the year in order to have this be her priority for future happiness and didn’t want to leave any promoters at bay,” the source continued. “She feels relieved that she can now make more sense of why she was feeling the way she was and is optimistic about the future.”
As Selena Gomez tends to her personal struggles, rumors continue to swirl in regard to her potential addiction to drugs. However, as she remains out of the public eye, Gomez is focused on herself and her future and is assumed to be surrounded by her close friends and family members who love her.
Selena Gomez’s final performance on her Revival World Tour took place on August 13 in Auckland, New Zealand. Prior to the show, Gomez had completed several concerts in Australia.
